Fresh Fire AME Church was birthed in September 2002 by Pastor Bobette Hampton, shortly after she was given the appointment by Bishop Philip R. Cousin to plant new work in the City of Kalamazoo, MI. Her current bishop is the Senior Bishop of African Methodism, The Right Rev. John R. Bryant, Fourth Episcopal District. Pastor Hampton’s Presiding Elder is Rev. Dr. Norman V. Osborne.
Next to God, her right-hand support comes from her husband, Evangelist John Hampton and the Fresh Fire Church Family. Fresh Fire is the first AME Church to be planted in the Kalamazoo since 1855 and Pastor Hampton is the first female to ever pastor an AME Church in the city. Though connected to the mainline denomination of Methodism, Fresh Fire’s vision and mission embrace the offices of the five-fold ministries and are focused on advancing the Kingdom of God.
